MrSID Technology:

These online versions of the Original PLS Township Plats were developed using the electronic file scans of the Original PLS Township Plats as filed in the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State. These images herein distributed by Hennepin County were in some cases electronically joined together (by Hennepin County) to summarize the Township file displayed, and reduce the file sizes. No content has been lost in the joining of these files.

The files have also been compressed to allow access for the most efficient loading and viewing, while still maintaining the detail necessary to display the map content. The MrSid image compression utility from LizardTech compressed the original file sizes averaging 400MB down to an average of 3MB files. These downloadable maps are stored in the MrSid format.

Hennepin County does not provide help or support for the MrSid viewer.

These digital Public Land Survey plat map images are the result of an important collaborative effort by the State Archives of the Minnesota Historical Society, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Office of the Secretary of State, the Department of Administration's Land Management Information Center (LMIC) and the Minnesota Association of County Surveyors. The Minnesota Department of Transportation provided funding for the digitization of the GLO maps.
