Hennepin County is recognized as a StormReady community by the National Weather Service

What we do

The Emergency Management Department protects communities by coordinating and integrating all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve capabilities to prevent, mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other man-made disasters.

Emergency Management involves all hazards, phases, stakeholders, and impacts that may occur at any time and any place within our area of operations.

Our responsibility

Hennepin County Emergency Management is responsible for development of plans and programs to maintain a state of readiness to meet natural, man-made, and technological disasters on a local or county-wide basis.

Emergency Management also coordinates and maintains inventories of disaster resources in the county, both public and private, as well as plans for the effective utilization of resources in the county with the assistance of designated county departmental emergency management coordinators, appointed municipal directors, and volunteers.
