Project update

A public meeting will be held on May 14, 2013 to seek public input on urban design features including bicycle and pedestrian facilities, streetscaping, parking, and overall integration of these elements along the Washington Avenue corridor. All residents, businesses, property owners and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Mill City Museum - Mill Commons (Lobby)
704 South 2nd Street, Minneapolis

A previous public meeting was held in December 2012 where input was received on existing conditions, challenges, opportunities, and preliminary alternatives. The purpose of this second public meeting is to gain public input on project recommendations and alternative urban design concepts.

Several new links are provided at the bottom of this web page including corridor concept exhibits, the public meeting flyer, and a draft traffic operation analysis.

An online survey for all interested parties to provide additional feedback about the future of Washington Avenue is available through May 31, 2013. To complete the survey, go to: www.surveymonkey.com/s/WashingtonAveDesignConcept

Project overview

Hennepin County in coordination with the City of Minneapolis, is preparing for the reconstruction of Washington Avenue South (County Road 152) between Hennepin Avenue and 5th Avenue South. The project is in the early stages of the project development process and construction is anticipated in 2014.

Hennepin Avenue to 5th Avenue South will remain the limits for the proposed reconstruction project. The concept plans will be used to generate a preliminary layout on which the detailed design for the project will be based.

5th Avenue South to I-35W is not identified as a reconstruction project at this time. However, the concept plans will provide guidance as future projects are identified and as funding becomes available.

Project information will be made available on this website and at public meetings.
